Influential were approached by a large County Council to undertake a “root and branch” inspection of its IBM Cognos estate to eek out any apparent and potential problems, and ensure the BI estate runs optimally.

The specification of the works required Influential to do the following:

a) Improve the efficiency of the BI tool
b) Develop a strategic plan to make Business Intelligence a Self Service system thus reducing the reporting burden on the central IT department
c) Evaluate the security and audit of the system
d) Make recommendations to improve the performance of the system
e) Direct the authority towards cashable savings

Even though the root of the initial problems fell outside the BI estate, unlike other BI specialists, Influential Software fortunately has other specialist support and development departments, which can supply required skills accordingly.

Having completed the inspection sooner than expected, recommendations are already being implemented, and tangible cash returns are already due within this year.
